coves in alicante

Alicante is home to some of the most stunning coves in Spain, each with their own unique charm and character. Renting a car is the perfect way to explore these hidden gems. In this guide, we’ll take you through the iconic coves in Alicante, including insider tips on where to park, what to bring, and what to do once you get there.

Iconic coves in Alicante

Cala del Moraig

cala moraig

It is situated in the municipality of Benitachell and is part of the Serra de Bèrnia natural park. The cove is known for its crystal-clear waters and wonderful beach, which is surrounded by cliffs and caves.  One of the most distinctive features of Cala del Moraig is the Cova dels Arcs, a large sea cave that can be accessed by swimming or kayaking from the beach. To make the most of the day, we recommend you to: get there early (cars are parked on nearby roads, so if you go too late you will have to leave the car away), wear comfy shoes (the hike down to the beach is steep and rocky) and bring plenty of water and snacks. There aren’t any shops or restaurants near the beach, make sure you bring everything you’ll need during the day.

Cala Ambolo

cala ambolo

Situated in the town of Javea, about an hour’s drive from Alicante, this cove is one of the most picturesque on the Costa Blanca. Surrounded by rocky cliffs, it offers a peaceful spot for sunbathing and swimming. Access to Cala Ambolo is limited, as it is only accessible via a narrow and winding road. This has helped to preserve its natural beauty and keep it relatively uncrowded, compared to some of the more popular beaches in the area.

Cala Granadella

Also located in Javea, Cala Granadella is a small cove with crystal-clear waters and a pebble beach. It’s a popular spot for kayaking and paddleboarding, with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea. We recommend going very early to be able to park, since once it is full you can not access by car and there are several kilometres of road to reach the beach. Another trick is to book at the main restaurant for lunch, with the reservation you will be allowed to pass the barrier.

Cala Tio Ximo

Situated in the town of Benidorm, about a 30-minute drive from Alicante, this cove is a popular spot for swimming and sunbathing. It’s surrounded by cliffs and offers stunning views of the sea and the town of Benidorm. Despite being a nudist beach, Cala Tio Ximo is a family-friendly destination, and many families with children also frequent the area. The beach is surrounded by beautiful scenery and has a relaxed and welcoming vibe that attracts both locals and tourists.

Cala Racó del Conill

Located in the town of Villajoyosa, about a 30-minute drive from Alicante, this cove is a hidden gem that’s worth exploring. The cove is surrounded by cliffs and vegetation, which provides some privacy for those who practice nudism. Despite being a popular spot for nudists, Cala Raco del Conill is also frequented by non-nudists who come to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. It’s important to note that while nudity is tolerated on this beach, it is not mandatory.

Cala Pinets
